The traditional Mongolian drugs

The traditional Mongolian mdicine is the special medicinal system with a unique national style, which mixed the medical theories of the Tibet, Han nationality and ancient India, and occupy an important position in Chinese medicine.

According to the history there were many excellent Mongolian medical experts and famous classical books of Mongolian drugs. Xi Le Ga Re Mo Long (Discernment and Examination of Drugs) edited by Songba Kanbu-Yisebalajire in the 18th century established a theorial foundation of Mongolian drugs. The book collected 390 kinds of Mongolian drugs. At same time, another book, Man Ao Xi Ji De (Discernment of Drugs), edited by Luobushang Suolerehamu in Cahaerxian was published, which was divided into four parts and collected 687 kinds of drugs. In early 19th century Li Shi Er Mi Ge Jin (Examination of Pictures of the Herbs) edited by Zanbulatongreji in Tibetan in Zelimu, Naiman, Inner- Mongolia, conllected 875 kinds of Mongolian drugs and became a major classical works to study and to investigate Mongolian drugs.

The development of the modern Mongolian drugs is quickly. According to statistics there are 2230 kinds of Mongolian drugs. Mongolian drugs are used in regions where have many Mongolian population in the northeast and the northwest of China besides the Inner- Mongolia Autonomous Region.

By general investigation for many years, it is clear to know the resources of Mongolian drugs in Inner-Mongolia Autonomous Region. There are 1342 kinds of various resources of Mongolian drugs in the region. 926 kinds of them are plants, 290 kinds are animal, 98 kinds are mineral, 28 kinds are other. In the region there are over 500 kinds of common used Mongolian drugs, 400 kinds of them can be found in markets, and 260 kinds being only used by Mongolian medical doctors. There are 522 kinds of medicinal materials and patent medicines recorded in Mong Yao Biao Zhun (Standard for Mongolian Drugs) issued by the government of Inner-Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The main Mongolian drugs with typical nationality characteristic include Sen Den (Xanthoceras sorbiforia [Wenguanmu], Wuhere-xilusi (Scabiosa comosa [Menggu shanluobo]), Alatanhua-qiqige (Flos trollii [Jinlianhua]), Angeilumosi-bireyangu (Dracocephalum moldavicum [Xiangqinglan]), Minji-ying-sure (Arnebia saxatilis [Zitongcao]), Baga-tarenu (stellera chamaejasme [Ruixian langdu]), Gashun-baoreqige (Sophora alopecuroides [Kudouzi]), Lougemore (Phlomis umbrosa [Caosu]), Handagai-hele (Ligularia fischeri [Shenye tuowu]), Aolangheibu (Spiranthes sinensis [Shoucao]).

The most popular Mongolian drugs include Moschus (Shexiang), Syzygium aromaticum (Dingxiang), Pepper longum (Bibo), Amomum cardamomum (Doukou), Dracocephalum moldavicum (Xiangqinlan), Strychnos nux-vomica (Maqianzi), Mercury (Shuiying), and Aconiti kusnezoffii (Caowu). When Aconiti kusnezoffii (Caowu) is used in prescription, A Ru Le (Terminalia chebula) (Hezi) would be added at the same time usually.
